NHS Grampian’s Directly Recruited Nurses from Australia Begin to Arrive

Scottish Health Board NHS Grampian has confirmed that 5 nurses recruited from Australia as part of the British Nursing Job Fairs have already started with a further 50 expected to follow.

NHS Grampian was one of five NHS Trusts that attended the British Nursing Job Fairs in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane to directly recruit nurses and midwives to work in the UK’s NHS. The events were organised by healthcare talent marketing company, HealthSectorTalent and in January 2018, just two months after the events, NHS Grampian reported that they were “thrilled” and that the results “exceeded all expectations.”

According to the report by the Press and Journal “Last year, NHS Grampian took an unprecedented recruitment trip to Australia in a desperate attempt to tackle their staffing crisis. The board raised eyebrows when it announced it was spending well over £20,000 to scout potential nurses and midwifes. But the trip was hailed a huge success after scores of people expressed an interest in coming to the north-east. Now the Press and Journal can reveal five nurses are working at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Aberdeen Maternity Hospital and Cornhill Hospital – four from Australia and one from America.”

Stephen McLarnon, Chief Executive, HealthSectorTalent said “The Australian Nursing market offers huge potential for NHS employers if like NHS Grampian they’re prepared to think outside the box. The British Nursing Job Fair has proved very successful for all our Clients with four of the five Trusts that participated in November 2017 returning with us in June 2018.”
